Laser Therapy
What is Laser therapy?
Low Level Laser Therapy or LLLT
was first developed in 1967 and involves the application of red and near
infra-red light over injuries or lesions. It is used to improve wound
and soft tissue healing and give relief for both acute and chronic pain.
LLLT effects are photochemical,
similar to photosynthesis in plants. Red and near infrared light passed
through the skin, can affect cell membrane permeability and aid in the
production of ATP, this in turn provides the cell with more energy. In
simple terms, LLLT can boost cellular metabolism and increase the cells
capacity to initiate the natural healing process.
How can Laser help my horse?
LLLT is often used for soft tissue injuries, joint conditions, chronic pain, non-healing wounds and ulcers, post-operative pain and as a substitute for acupuncture.
